Introducing: The Blog Baton

When Mason e-mailed us this morning about her new Blog Baton project - we thought HOW FUN!  We've already headed over to follow @TheBlogBaton on Instagram - so you should to!  {No...but seriously, this blog post will still be here when you get back!  So go follow now!} Be sure to check out the information below and send her an e-mail to sign up!  Comment below with your personal Instagram username if you sign up to host the Blog Baton and we might just follow you!  You can always follow us on Instagram here!

I've been really excited to share this project with you for a while now, and it's finally time! 

At the beginning of the summer, I was introduced to RDU Baton, an Instagram account for Raleigh, NC and the surrounding areas. Every day, a different resident "holds the baton" and Instagrams their life in and around Raleigh via the RDU Baton account. I thought it was the most brilliant idea as well as a fantastic way to learn new things about this ever-changing city. I held the baton two weeks ago, and you can check out my recap here.

Not only have I enjoyed following the Instagram account and learning about how other people spend their time in the city I've called home for almost 25 years, but it also sparked an idea: What if there was a Blog Baton?

So I decided to make one.

Here are the deets:

Every Tuesday, a different blogger will take over the Blog Baton Instagram account just for that day. Instead of this baton being city-specific and a way to learn about places and things in a particular area, this will be a way to learn about YOU and things in YOUR life and on YOUR blog. Take pictures throughout your day, share interests, do an OOTD, show us your morning Starbucks or your fresh manicure, share the Pinterest recipe your cooked for dinner...whatever! The choice is yours. This is a way for you and your blog to reach more people in this community of ours.

Rules:

DO follow Mason...Like The Jar via GFC or Bloglovin and @TheBlogBaton on Twitter and Instagram so you can be up to date on everything that's happening and follow along!

DO post the Blog Baton button on your personal blog, Facebook, and/or Instagram, 
and tell your followers you'll be posting there for the day. If the word gets out
and the Blog Baton following increases, it means more exposure
for YOU and more fun Instagrammers and bloggers to check out!

DO post consistently throughout the day, but please no more than 10 photos.
We don't want to blow anyone up. I think we all know how annoying it is
when one person blows up our Instagram feeds ;)

DO share your life and your interests with us. I would love to make this project
as fun and diverse as we can. Ideally, I would love to have all kinds of bloggers with
all kinds of specialties and styles so there's something for everyone. 

DO be yourself, and let your photos reflect your blog and personal style.

DO only post photos taken on your day. If everyone starts posting old Instagram
photos, your personal Instagram won't be as fun for new followers to 
discover and explore!

DO play with filters and other editing apps, but please keep multi-photo collages
and selfies to a minimum.


DO caption and sign your photos. Use as many hashtags as you would like and
describe your photos with as much detail as you feel necessary. And sign your
photos with "Photo by @{yourusername}"

DO share links to your blog!

DO select the "share to Twitter" button, so your photos end up on @TheBlogBaton's
twitter!

DO recap your Blog Baton experience on your blog and spread the word!

DON'T post any questionable or inappropriate content. This means no profanity or
nudity. Let's keep this fun and light and PG. {Alcoholic beverage posts, however,
are obviously welcome and encouraged. Who do you think I am??} Blog Baton reserves
the right to remove any photo that does not follow these rules.

DON'T follow or unfollow anyone using the Blog Baton account. But please do follow
yourself.

DON'T change any of the @TheBlogBaton Instagram account settings.

DON'T post videos. Let's just keep this about photos for now.

DON'T post screenshots. But please post an image from your blog post
for that day if you feel so inclined.

Sign Up!

To sign up, please email me at theblogbaton@gmail.com and include the following:

1. Your name
2. Your blog URL
3. Your Instagram username

I will email you back with three available dates for you to choose from.

The day before you hold the baton, I will email you with the Blog Baton account information so you can gain access and start posting! On your baton day, I will give you a little introduction at the bottom of my post for that day, and tell people to head over to check out your day!
