The Monogrammed Life

Happy #beautymonday!! I am super excited because my hubby and I leave tonight to go to the Dominican Republic for the week (YAYYY) and I could not be more thrilled. We can’t wait to lay out in the sun and enjoy our time on the beach (who doesn’t?!). Today’s post is showing you what’s in my makeup bag on beach vacations. Typically, you don’t wear a ton of makeup on vacations, for obvious reasons, but some of us still like to glam it up a little bit because #extra. Ok let’s dive into my vacation beauty must-haves!

Pur~Lisse BB Cream

This is my dream BB cream. It is SO light, and has a barely-there look and feel, which is perfect for the beach. I like to even out my skin tone just a little bit because I am splotchy, and I do have minor acne scarring that I like to cover a little bit. The second best thing about this BB cream is that it has SPF 30 already built into it, which means I don’t have to put additional greasy sunscreen on my face. Say goodbye to sunscreen zits (that is a serious thing).

Tarte Shape Tape

This would be more to touch up my face at the end of the day for dinner out, rather than wearing on the beach. It is also the bomb for covering up sunscreen on your face if you happen to get a slightly toasted while you are laying out like the beach goddess you are. It’s very opaque so nobody will ever know you had a sunburn!!

Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer

This is my go-to bronzer. It smells like coconut, so it only adds to your beach experience. The color is warm and when dusted into the hollows of your cheeks and around your forehead, you can accentuate the gorgeous tan you are working on!

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Coral

I love coral colors on my skin tone in the summer. They really bring out my green eyes and make my freckles totally pop. This shade of coral is so perfect for vacation. It will make you look natural glowy and flushed. Just don’t use it if you already have a sunburn…

Eylure Eyebrow Wax + Clear Gel

I have been going really natural on my eyebrows lately and skipping my usual Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow. The eylure eyebrow wax is a Godsend. It goes on your skin MUCH lighter than this picture makes it seem, and helps lightly fill in the gaps in my brows. I sweep the clear gel overtop to hold those babies in place and I’m done!

Naked Basics 2 Eyeshadow

I skip the eyeshadow altogether on the beach because I just don’t care to spend that much time when I am going to be swimming, however, I do use it when we go out to dinner. I love the colors in my Naked Basic 2 palette because they are matte nudes, so perfect for light crease contouring and inner corner highlight. I don’t do a full eye because it don’t like wearing that much makeup in the summertime. It fits right into my makeup bag and has every color you need.

Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara

If you’ve been around for any length of time, you guys know that Better Than Sex is my go-to mascara. It makes sense that I would snag their waterproof version for my fun-in-the-sun activities!! It stays on all day, doesn’t smudge or smear and is SUPER black. I skip the eyeliner during vacations and opt for a light layer of mascara only.
Buxom Lip Gloss in Coral
This is my new favorite lipgloss. It is so peachy and flattering. It’s not a “beach” makeup item, I opt for my chapstick with sunscreen in it for that, but it’s great to throw on for dinner. I skip the heavy lipsticks and go straight for hydrating gloss. Way easier to maintain, and lighter for summer.

PIN THIS FOR LATER:

These are my FAVORITE vacation beauty must-haves and you honestly don’t need any more than that when you are going to be spending most of your days on the beach. I like to let my natural freckles show through and spend more time enjoying the company of my husband than in front of the mirror. These are quick products to help you look put together without going over the top.
I hope you enjoyed! Let me know your favorite product to take with you on your vacations below!!

Well y'all, today's post is a real labor of love & I'm THRILLED to share it with you!!

Whenever I take a photo in my room, the most frequently asked questions I get are how I made my accessory wall- and today I'm spilling all the details! The good news for y'all is that this is the easiest DIY ever - even a non-DIY'er like me could do it :)

In my day job, as a jewelry buyer, there are some serious perks- one of which are the insane sample sales! (We're talking stuff-a-bag-for-$20-type-sales) Which means my jewelry collection has grown large over the past 5 years! In order to keep my collection organized, I had to come up with my own system, which I'm sharing with y'all today...

1. Start with a pegboard (just like this one). I pre-measured my wall and figured out the dimensions that I would need, and then went to Home Depot and they cut my board right down to size! When in doubt... let the trained professionals handle the heavy tools! ;)

2. I grabbed acrylic paint from Michaels in colors that matched my room, and then I painted to my heart's content! Feel free to create whatever design you want- just make sure to put blankets or towels under your board, that paint will leak through the holes (lesson learned the hard way!).

3. Next comes install. This hook kit has all the parts and pieces you need to screw your board into the wall. I wish I could give you some tips on this part... but my dad actually did it for me (ha!). But it took all of about 5 minutes so I'm assuming it's pretty easy! :)

4. Now it's time to organize! I gathered a variety of these hooks and these baskets to organize my various jewelry on; they literally hook right into the pegboard so you can install them however you want. My larger statement necklaces actually have two hooks underneath, and the smaller, delicate pendants are fine on one. I use the basket for misc odds and ends (like statement earrings and open cuffs).

If you decide to tackle this DIY please make sure to share it with me! I'd love to see what you come up with!

After over four weeks, I'd say I'm starting to get the hang of this whole intern thing! I've already learned so much from being a marketing and social media content intern for several large shoe brands and I truly couldn't love it more. The experience is so valuable and I really enjoy getting to talk to so many people both college age and older. With the knowledge I've gained and continue to gain every day, I thought I would put together a guide for being the best intern you can be. Check out my tips below!

+ Accept Your Mistakes and Move On
As a college student interning for a company, you're bound to make a mistake or two. Interning is a learning experience, and you're not expected to be perfect! You're there to learn the tricks of the trade and the ins and outs of the work world, and sometimes making little mistakes is the best way to gain more experience. Apologize for what you did wrong, be polite and go back to fix where you went wrong.

+ Show Your Dedication
Whether it's getting in a little earlier and staying a little later or asking your boss if there's anything else you could do, show how motivated you are to do your best. Don't forget to always be polite in emails, conversation, etc!

+ Dress For the Job You Want
On the first day of my internship, I wasn't sure what the dress code was like in the office. The company I'm working for is more casual than I expected, but I still aim to look put together and professional every day. You'll really show how much you care by dressing up a little more. As they say, dress for the job you want, not the job you have!

+ Make Conversation with Others
It's easy to just leave for lunch or keep quiet the whole day, but if you have the chance to, really try to get to know the people around the office and what they do. I'm super lucky that I really like the other interns I work with, and we've gotten to know each other pretty well in a short amount of time. Besides other interns, though, I've loved meeting other people in the marketing department and beyond. It's so fun to hear people's experiences and what they get to do every day!

Above all: have fun! Take your work seriously but remember that this could be the start of the rest of your life - have fun with it!
What tips do you have for being a great intern?
xoxo

These next few months are filled with summer trips. Some are quick weekend getaways, while others are fun trips that have been in the works for quite some time. Either way, I have had to hone in on my packing skills (and my over packing skills…). Today I’m excited to partner with Barrington to share my packing tips that I have implemented for my summer trips! I hope these are able to help you for upcoming summer jaunts!

Nick and I are heading to my parent’s beach house today for a long weekend and I’m definitely bringing these bags along with me!

BARRINGTON BELMONT CABIN BAG

I first tried out a Barrington bag back in 2015. Back then the brand was newer (to me) but I loved the customized color options, so I decided to buy one. While the customizing initially drew me to the brand, the quality has made me a loyal customer for years now! I have quite a few weekender bags, but none have lived up the the quality or durability of my Barrington ones! My weekender bags have been on many, many trips and years later they still look brand new! The best part is that it’s sort of oversized, so it fits everything in it (including all of my overpacked shoes and clothes!)

PACKING TIPS FOR A WEEKENDER BAG

When I’m flying and checking a bag, I always bring a carry-on bag with me that is full of essentials incase my luggage gets lost along the way! I have had my luggage lost one time and it was nice to have the necessities with me instead of having to buy extras of everything! In my carry-on I always pack travel sized products like shampoo, conditioner, face wash and any other products I may need. I also bring a change of clothes appropriate for the weather, a few pairs of underwear, PJs and a comfy pair of shoes!

BARRINGTON ST. ANNE TOTE

This tote is great whether you’re using it while traveling or as an every day bag. It’s really spacious and very durable. I have a few of these totes in different prints and every time I carry one I get a lot of compliments on it. I have used this monogrammed St. Anne Tote twice as my personal item on flights and have been able to fit everything in it (including snacks!) I plan on using it in a few weeks when I head to Spain because I know it can hold everything that I’ll need for an international flight.

I always carry a lot in my tote when I’m traveling just in case. I carry the items that I don’t want to check or store overhead (like my laptop, my cameras, etc.) and then from there I add in the essentials. If I’m traveling internationally I always have my Passport with me (in a cute passport case!) I also bring hand sanitizer and a travel sized deodorant that way I can use them upon getting off the flight and feel a bit more clean and fresh when I get to my destination. I also bring a hair tie, lotion, and an assortment of medicine for emergency needs. I’m of the mindset that I would rather have too much than not have what I need if something happens! ðŸ™‚

P.S. Barrington doesn’t only offer totes & weekender bags. They have a lot of small leather accessories as well! I really love my passport case but I have my eye on the cosmetic kit and laptop case too! Are those not too cute?!

What a weekend! If this weekend was any indication of how Summer 2017 will be, it’s going to be 100% awesome. My friends and I headed to the Bullpen on Friday for the White Ford Bronco concert and quickly learned that the Daiquiri Shack now sells Frosé, a game-changer for us non-beer drinkers. At $13 a pop, the Frosé was delicious and refreshing but I would just order one and sip on it. My friends and I have a Saturday Pool Day tradition that’s now 4 years strong. We hang out at the pool, grill out, people-watch and relax. It’s the best part of the week during the summer.
On Casual Fridays at the office, I like to wear my white jeans to get as close to weekend vibes during 9 to 5 as possible. These straight leg white jeans from Talbots are my favorite pair of white jeans ever, they’re incredibly comfortable and flattering. Plus, they are machine-washable and look just as pure white now as when I bought them a few years ago.
To keep things easy, I paired this stripe shell ($25!) with the white jeans. I’ve loved J.Crew’s shells since college, they are perfect for tucking into pencil skirts and are lightweight and breathable, two of my favorite adjectives during the summer. Sometimes I’ll match the shells with their corresponding sweaters but today I opted for a blazer to create a more polished look. I love my navy blazer and my chambray blazer but sometimes, a girl just needs that pink blazer to power through the week.
I brought out my gold tassel earrings to add a fun statement piece to the outfit and voila, hello
