The Monogrammed Life

Did you know that MarleyLilly was named after 2 dogs???? So you know we are animal lovers over here! So, check out this cute, creative, and fun way to suprise your loved one from Stephanie at Beautiful Mess.
Well. Here we are.

It's time for Saw it. Pinned it. Did it!

I should go ahead and preface this by saying today's post is 1000% birthday related in honor of Beau's birthday.

Mmmkay...now that that's out of the way...

We've been debating this whole "puppy" thing for quite some time now. Do we get a small dog I can carry around with me?
Do we get a big dog that we can take to the river/ranch with us? What about Beau's allergies? We're in a new house...what if it chews on the walls? Do we get a dog at all? Etc, etc...

While Beau pretty much pitched a fit when we left the breeder because I didn't put down a deposit right then and there, little did he know I would be I "ordering" him a puppy for his birthday. The only problem? The puppy wouldn't be here in time for me to give to him on his actual birthday (minor detail) so I needed to find a way STAT to "give" him this unborn puppy. (Weird. I know.)

Breed: Rhodesian Ridgeback (aka: African hunting dog, you know, because we're in Africa and all?)
Due date: Feb 28th-ish

So my creative juices began to flow. And then they stopped. And then they started flowing again (or maybe that was the wine?). And then they stopped. So finally I gave in and hit up good ol' Pinterest. Duh.

(New life motto: "When all else fails, go to Pinterest.")

Hallelujah. Dog bowl turned gift basket. Flippin' genius!

Here's what you'll need:
Photobucket
  • Dog bowl (I got this one from Hob Lob for a STEAL! $30!)
  • Cellophane
  • Crinkle paper
  • Dog goodies (toys, treats, collars, leashes, etc.)

Basically, rather than using a typical gift basket, you'll use the dog bowl as your "basket" so first you need to fill the bowl with crinkle paper to support all the toys so they don't fall to the inside.
Photobucket

Next, go out and purchase the most redneck dog toys you can find. (Hey, I thought a deer, rabbit and raccoon were appropriate?)

Arrange all the toys in the bowl so that they look nice.
Photobucket

Cut out a square of cellophane, place your bowl in the middle and bring the corners up to the top. Bunch the cellophane together about 1/3 the way down and tie off with a rubber band. (Sorry-it was too hard to take a picture of myself demonstrating this.)

Tie it off with some wired burlap ribbon, or any ribbon, for that matter...but lets be honest here, burlap just makes everything better...
Photobucket Photobucket

Voila!
Photobucket

Finally-blindfold your birthday boy, take a gazillion pics because you find it absolutely hysterical he let you blindfold him for 10+ minutes and unveil your gift.
Photobucket

I promise he won't be mad at you for your "pinterest" inspired gift...

Who would be?

Photobucket
Now that's puppy love.....

Hard to believe that Valentine's Day is less than a month away! We don't make Valentine's a big to-do in our house. I make a nice dinner at home {no prix-fixe menus for us, thanks} and we normally just get each other a small little something. It doesn't help that I'm not a huge fan of cut flower arrangements, especially at Valentine's Day. I'd much rather have a potted bloom to enjoy for months! Here are a few things I wouldn't mind receiving...

1. "State Fair" DVD 2. Cocoa Mill Valentine Chocolate Hearts and Truffles 3. Just Add Ice Orchids potted phalaenopsis 4. Voluspa Maison Noir Crisp Champagne candle 5. Quill and Fox "You've Stolen My Heart" card 6. ASOS clutch bag with double tassel zip 7. Ren Morrocan Rose Otto Ultra-Nourishing bath oil 8. Vie Luxe Deluxe Candle 9. Fresh Rose Face Mask 10. Cosabella Never Say Never Hottie lowrider hot pants 11. NARS lip gloss in Giza

It’s incredible from where the inspiration for a blog post comes. One minute, you are enjoying watching a movie and then the next, you are scrambling for a blank sheet of paper or frantically spilling your thoughts into your iPhone. Seriously, I do not know what I would do with my Notes app.
I was not even entertaining any thought about my blog when I watched The Princess Diaries with my mother on my last day at home. I absolutely adore the movies, especially Julie Andrews. I read most of the series by Meg Cabot but grew out of it (read: fell in love with Jane Austen) before completing them. Maybe I should go back and pick up where I left off?
Anyway…do you remember the scene of Mia’s first big dinner as a princess? As she sits with the prime minister of Genovia and his wife, we overhear a snippet of their conversation.
“There was a feminist group in Scotland called ‘Tarts for Tartan’.”
“They were a wild bunch.”
“Very exciting!”
BAM! Just like a lightning bolt, I began to brainstorm the post you are currently reading.
At my elementary school, which I attended from K through 8th, we wore plaid uniforms. I have to say, I still miss my uniform and plaid has a special place in my heart.
Plaid is wonderfully versatile and can be sported at the office, out at night and running around town. Plaid serves as a base for an outfit and you simply have to build around it based on the occasion.

What New Years resolutions have you made? We are trying to drink more water! Check out these helpful tips from Caroline at Citrus and Style.

I am sure you have heard that drinking water is super important to being healthy. I thought it was all a myth, but it turns out to be so true! I find that when I drink more water my skin is clearer, I am more energized and refreshed.

So why don't you drink water? You are SUPPOSED to have 64 ounces a day (That's only 4 plastic water bottles) but why does it seem so hard?

Maybe drinking more water will seem a little easier when you're drinking it out of
one of these adorable cups!

When I was in college I always looked forward to the weekends because it meant going out with friends and game day fun. But then came the dreaded Sunday where I would have to spend the entire day in the library writing papers, working on design projects, and preparing for the following week. No fun.

Now I look forward to the weekend not only because I get a break from work, but because that also means time to relax. I don't have to bring my work home with me, I don't have to stress, and I don't have anything to do on Sundays. Which, to me, is nearly perfect. I can spend all day doing what I want to do!

Here are some things that I enjoy doing on my Sundays!

Cozy up with a good book: I love reading. During the week it is hard for me to find time to read, except right before bed, so I love spending my Sunday laying around catching up with a good book!

Catch up on weekly TV shows: I have a confession: I don't have cable in my new apartment. Weird? Yes. Beneficial? Yes. I am working from 8:30- 5:30 during the week, so I didn't really see the point in having cable when I am rarely there to watch it. Instead I have the Roku, which like Apple TV, has Netflix, Hulu Plus, and a number of other apps. I can still watch all of my weekly shows that I love (that I missed during the week!)

Write my blog posts for the week: I'm not always inspired to write all of my blog posts at once, but occasionally I will have so many ideas running through my head that I find it best if I just write them while they come to me! If I am lacking inspiration or words I simply brainstorm what I could blog about for the upcoming week.

Get in a good workout: With the holiday and all the food I really got slack in my workout routine. No more of that. Warmer temperatures are just around the corner (in the South at least) and that is all the motivation I need to get my butt back in the gym!

Clean, organize & do laundry: Nothing starts my week off better than having a clean apartment, knowing where everything is, and having fresh clothes and sheets. It starts the week off on a good foot and allows me to have more time for other things during the week! Plus, these are things I like to do anyways, so they don't seem like chores!

What do you like to do on your Sunday?

Finally ready to step it up and invest in some quality make up brushes?  If you aren't exactly sure which ones you need or are just looking to invest in a few start brushes - check out this blog post from Samantha at Subtly Fabulous! She has a great guide explaining her go-to brushes!
Knowing your make-up brushes is important when it comes to getting the look you want. Here are the 5 basic brushes I would suggest you have.
1. Liquid Foundation | This brush is the most important, and while others prefer a make-up sponge or their hands, I find you get the best results with the brush. It also does not waste as much of your foundation as a sponge does.
2. Powder | You want a good sized brush because you are trying to cover a lot of area. I mostly use powder to set my foundation so it is important to have a lighter, and fluffy brush to achieve this.
3. Blush | Some people prefer an angled blush brush, but I find that when you use one of those, it gives you a harsh line of where the blush ends. This even and larger brush allows you to have a more natural blush line.
4. Eye Shadow | For everyday wear, I don’t do anything fancy for shadow (if I wear it at all) so I prefer a medium shadow brush to simply sweep a single color on.
5. Angled Brush | This is used for smudging the liner into the lash line as well as creating a winged or cat-eye look. While I do not use this brush daily, it is a brush that is very useful.

We have SPRING FEVER here at Marley Lilly!!  What's a better way to dream of warmer weather, Lilly dresses and beach trips than giving away FIVE of our new monogrammed tank tops?  With all of the colors and styles available, we have a tank that will fit everyone's personality!  We think that any of our tanks for all tanlines would look great for your new spring wardrobe!  We are giving away a Boyfriend Pocket Tank, a Racerback Tank Top, a Girlfriend Pocket Tank, a Heathered Summer Tank Top & a Seersucker Stripe Tank top this week!  Read below for more information about each tank as well as giveaway entry rules!  Here's to dreaming of warmer weather!!

Monogrammed Boyfriend Pocket Tank Tops
Monogrammed pocket tank tops are a great summer accessory! We are calling this tank the boyfriend pocket tank because it is a unisex cut tank. It looks great layered! Your undershirt or sports bra will show on the sides since the arm holes are larger. The pocket is monogrammed, but the pocket will not be usable. Since this is a unisex style shirt, we suggest ordering the size you would normally wear in a t-shirt. If you would normally get a medium t-shirt, order a medium in this one! We have to sew is partially shut so to make the pocket lay properly on the shirt. It is made of 6-ounce, 100% cotton.

Monogrammed Racerback Tank Top
Monogrammed tank tops are the best summer accessory! This racerback style tank top looks great with gym shorts or your favorite print! We love this tank because it is long, and stretchy! This tank top is a junior fit, so we suggest ordering 1 size up from your normal size. If you normally wear a medium in a tank, order a large unless you want it to fit tight. We like the more flowy look, but if you are going for a tight fit, then you may not need to order a size up. It is made of lightweight 3.5-ounce, 60/40 cotton/poly. The monogram is placed on the back middle of the tank!

Monogrammed Girlfriend Pocket Tank Tops
Monogrammed pocket tank tops are a great summer accessory! This tank top is a junior fit, so we suggest ordering 1 size up from your normal size. We are calling this tank the girlfriend pocket tank because it is cut for a woman. It has thinner straps than the boyfriend tank and has a scoop style bottom. It looks great layered! The pocket is monogrammed, but the pocket will not be usable. We have to sew is partially shut so to make the pocket lay properly on the shirt. If you normally wear a medium in a tank, order a large unless you want it to fit tight. We like the more flowy look, but if you are going for a tight fit, then you may not need to order a size up. It is made of soft 3.8-ounce, 100% ring spun combed cotton.

Monogrammed Heathered Summer Tank Top
Monogrammed tank tops are the best summer accessory! This great tri-blend tank top is super comfy! It is made of lightweight 4.4-ounce, 50/38/12 poly/ring spun cotton/rayon. The monogram is placed on the front corner of this tank!

Monogrammed Seersucker Stripe Tank Top
Monogrammed tank tops are the best summer accessory! This great tri-blend tank top is super comfy! We love this tank because it is long, and stretchy! It is striped and looks super cute with white shorts. This tank top is a junior fit, so we suggest ordering 1 size up from your normal size. If you normally wear a medium in a tank, order a large unless you want it to fit tight. We like the more flowy look, but if you are going for a tight fit, then you may not need to order a size up. It is made of lightweight 4-ounce, 100% ring spun combed cotton yarn dye. The monogram is placed on the back of this tank!
