The Monogrammed Life

I start college in less than a week (eek!), but it literally seems like I just graduated from high school yesterday. Senior year was probably the best year of high school for me -- I barely stressed, I did so many fun things with friends, I did well academically, and I was genuinely happy.

The thing with senior year is it just doesn't automatically become the best year ever, unlike what HSM 3: Senior Year (yes, I am guilty of loving that movie) makes it seem like. You have to make your year the way you want it, and you have to focus on a little bit of everything.

d o  n o t  s a y  n o
One thing that I really focused on during senior year was not saying no to plans. I had the best friends and I realized that I would definitely miss them in college, so I wanted to make the most of the time I had left with them. I found a way to get around each excuse I was making with them so I could end up going out with them! Too much homework? Do it before you leave and after you get home, no matter how late you have to stay up. Too tired? Go to bed early the next night. Have to work? See if you can switch around your schedule with someone else. Don't say no to a simple opportunity because they'll end up adding up in the long run.

a t t e n d  e v e n t s
Any event that your school has that you're interested in, go! Sports games, dances, fundraisers, etc. are the best things to attend. I attended some hockey games and basketball games because our teams were really good and everyone went, so it made watching the game fun! And I went to every football game because Tyler was on the team. Homecoming and prom are crucial too -- who doesn't love the chance to buy a gorgeous dress?! Attend whatever you would like and bring your friends, too -- you'll be surprised at how much fun you end up having.

s h o w  s c h o o l  s p i r i t
I didn't really show school spirit until senior year and it made me realize how much I missed out on. My high school was really big into celebrating Halloween; every year it's a huge tradition to come to school on Halloween dressed up in a costume, and the best costumes get noticed! Some of my friends and I decided to dress up as tourists this past year and it was awesome. We went the whole nine yards with old Polaroid cameras, Hawaiian shirts, fanny packs, socks and salads, etc. and we ended up winning as one of the best costumes! Attend in spirit week and go all out. It'll be even more fun if you get your friends to go crazy, too!

d o  n o t  s t r e s s
My senior year was definitely my less stressful year of high school, which is weird because it's supposed to be the most stressful due to the endless amount of college stuff and making sure your grades stay good. I didn't worry about my grades that much, and it made my year so much better. My grades weren't perfect and my grades weren't bad -- they were just good. But I was okay with them not being perfect because I still graduated as eighth in the class -- something that was a huge accomplishment for me! Accept things for how they are and don't sweat the small stuff.

d o  n o t  p r o c r a s t i n a t e
Don't procrastinate on anything related to college. Write your college essay as soon as you decide on a prompt, apply to schools during any free time, and fill out any scholarships/financial aid forms as soon as you find out about them. You may seem like you have a while before any of those are due, so you'll put them off. But then you'll get so caught up in senior year that deadlines will come and you'll realize you didn't get anything done -- and then the stress will come. Get everything done as soon as you can and then you'll be able to enjoy your time later!

What advice would you have for high school seniors?

During the final semester of high school I got the idea that I should make scrapbooks for a few of my closest friends as a little going away gift. It was so much fun to go back through and print out all my favorite memories, because I rarely actually print out pictures. It took me weeks to get all 5 done, but in the end it was so worth it because everyone loved their gift! I wanted to share a few of my favorite pages with you guys because after I shared that I was working on a big project on Instagram I got a few requests to share the final product!

** just a little note that I did cover up faces just for this, but in the actual scrapbooks they obviously are not covered up :)

I got a few comments from my friends about how I put the dates in for almost every picture. It did take a lot more time to go back and figure out the day but honestly it was worth it to me because it is so fun to remember the exact date.

Also, if you are planning to do this or something similar, I always recommend waiting until a good sale or until you have coupons. I bought the albums at Hobby Lobby and was able to get them for a great price, and then I waited until paper was on sale at Michaels to stock up!

Would you enjoy getting a book of memories for a present? What is the best going away present you received? Share in the comments!

I can't tell you how many times we have unplanned guests over to visit. it's not like they stop by uninvited... no, we invite people over casually or last minute or in lieu of going to a bar, and next thing you know - company's coming over in five minutes. along with quickly scrambling to tidy up the apartment, it's also nice to provide some type of food and drink for guests.

as you know, I always have my wine fridge stocked at all times so no fretting there. however, the food situation can be a bit trickier if unplanned. welcoming guests with little to no pre-planning while making them feel as though you actually made an effort means big things [mainly, proof that you are an adult] in my hostess with the mostess book.

here are three snack options that you can buy all ingredients ahead of time and leave in your fridge or pantry until you're in a pinch. simply scoop out the dips into nice bowls and arrange the chips in a platter, and voila! you are an impromptu hostess with the mostess.

from left
alouette dip and stacy's pita chips
cheese, sausage, crackers (add nuts and honey and you have a charcuterie board)

pimento cheese and pretzels

every time I went over to my best friend's house in high school, her mom would bring out a bowl of alouette. it's definitely nostalgic for me. I've tried other imitation brands since alouette can be a bit pricy [not really, but in comparison] - they are not the same. take it from me and buy the alouette.

depending upon how obsessed you are with cheese, you probably already have a few cheeses in your cheese drawer [this is normal, right?]. slice 'em up along with some sausage and throw some crackers out - bonus points if you have nuts and/or honey. all the sudden, you have a bonafide charcuterie board on the fly.

as for pimento cheese, if you haven't tried it - don't. your waistline will thank me. there was once a time I thought I didn't care for pimento cheese and I realized it just hadn't tried it... now I can never go back. one word: addicting. southern and delicious. palmetto is THE only kind of pimento cheese to buy, by the way.

...so what are you waiting for, y'all come on over!

One of the best parts of going back to school in my opinion has always been new school supplies! When I was younger and had a list of items to purchase I would spend so long picking out my items so that they looked just right and were the way I liked them. Well, not much has changed aside from the fact that in college there are no supply lists and instead you get to choose the items entirely on your own. Good thing I can drive because I don't think any of my family members would want to come with me list-less to shop for school supplies since they know that could take forever.

Over the years I've discovered which school supplies I like most and tend to gravitate towards the same products year after year! I thought it could be fun to share these favorites with you!

Agenda // Notebook // Backpack // Le Pens // Sharpie Highlighters // Notecards // Folder // Bic Atlantis Pens

For me, I like to ditch the binders and instead stick to a folder and notebook combination. A matching color scheme makes these easy to spot and the duo helps to ensure that you don't just shove your handouts into your notebook with no rhyme or reason. Colorful pens pair perfectly with your agenda and if you couldn't tell, I love color coordinating! I'll be sharing my agenda organization but basically I choose a color pen for a class and stick with that all semester long and Le Pens are my go to and have been for years! Highlighters and black pens are a no brainer for me as are index cards for test studying and memorizing! Lastly, how cute is this backpack!? I have a post all about it tomorrow and can't get over how pretty and functional it is!

It's no secret that I'm a school supplies junkie. Stocking up on notebooks, folders and pens for the new school year ahead as we transition from summer to fall is probably my favorite time of year, but the best part in my opinion is choosing a new planner to use. It's such a personal thing and I feel like everyone has different elements that they find necessary in an agenda. I've had a few different kinds over the years, but I've found that simple yet preppy and bright ones are my favorite. So when Day Designeroffered to send me a planner through BlueSky.com, I knew I was in for a treat. I was a big fan of my black and white striped planner from last year, so I nearly died when I saw the adorable pink and gold detailing on the 2015-2016 version.

Isn't it just the cutest?! The cover has to be my favorite part. I love the soft feel and how slim it is - perfect to slip in and out of my backpack without getting caught and ripping like a different style.

The set up in the Day Designer is so ideal. Aside from the monthly calendar views, there are spacious pages for each week. I love how there are two boxes for each day: one for your plans/ events and then one for your to-do's (with boxes to check, one of the most satisfying things ever!!).

Definitely check out Day Designer's awesome selections for the next year - there are so many pretty ones to choose from and I wish I could use more than one!

Which agenda are you using this year? Comment below!

ANYTHING THAT MAKES MY MORNING ROUTINE EASIER IS MY FAVORITE THING. DO YOU FEEL ME?!

I love summer, but I am getting so ready for fall. I am so “basic” in the sense that pumpkin is my obsession and I would wear huge sweaters with leggings and boots all year if I could. Not to mention FOOTBALL is coming! I can’t wait to share pumpkin and apple recipes as well as tailgating ideas with y’all! BUT with fall comes back to school and with school starting back, we all need some help getting back into a routine. These high-protein, low-carb On-The-Go Mini Breakfast Casseroles are the perfect thing to help you out!
on the go mini breakfast casseroles www.spoonsofgrace
I make these ALL the time and there are a ton of variations you can use to switch them up, but I’m sharing our favorite version with you today – bacon, egg, & cheese!

They only take about 20 minutes to whip up and with that you have breakfast ready for the rest of the week! Just pop one  in the microwave in the morning and you are all set! These are also freezer-friendly so you can make a bunch of them ahead and heat them directly from the freezer to the microwave.
What could be better?!

I know you will love these – especially when you get your kids to school on time the first day because of them! ;)

This is the first of what will probably be quite a few back to school posts. But I'm sort of just now realizing that this is the last time I will be in this back to school mode. If you didn't already know, I only have one semester left of college.
Anyway, I just finished up my internship and I am trying to start thinking about packing. Oh and shoutout to Katie, from Chic in Carolina for responding to my tweet and suggesting to make a "what to pack for college" post. I was out of post ideas and I can actually use this myself! So here is how I have packed for college the last three years, and will be doing all over again next week. It's a pretty long winded post, but I hope you find it helpful!

My school is 8 hours from home, so at the beginning and end of the year my parents drive with me to move in and out, but I fly back and forth for breaks, Freshman and sophomore year we just took my mom's SUV to move everything in and out. Last year, (and this year) I wanted to have my car up at school (that I didn't get until right after I finished sophomore year) so we had the SUV and my small car. Wow, is it easier with the two cars! My dad did become a pro at what he calls "packing tetris" in the SUV though! But if you're an incoming freshman that isn't allowed to have a car on campus (mine was that way) getting it all into one car isn't that difficult.

CLOTHES
I usually bring way too much stuff up to school, but for this one semester I'm trying to really cut that down (you're welcome roommates!). Now for packing clothes, here are my typical outfits for fall, winter, and spring. However I should say that I typically have a good medium of dressed up and dressed down for class.

Fall:
Typical College Outfit: Fall

1. Sweatshirt or light sweater, or a long sleeve tee, pack them all! They're always nice for chilly days
2. Basic skinny jeans, easily my most worn item, but I know a lot of college that switch them out for leggings instead
3. Puffer vests, the best for fall, this one is my favorite
4. Riding boots (I have these in a different color)
5. Lighter scarves
6. I prefer a tote over a backpack, but this is obviously for all of the other seasons too!
7. Baseball caps for those bad hair days, like the bag, can be used in all seasons

Winter:
Typical College Outfit: Winter

1. Thick sweaters, just because winter (this one is actually still available on major sale!)
2. Jeans, again. I also wear some corduroys in the winter because they're a little warmer
3. Snow boots, my best friend at school. It snows from November- April, so I have 2 older pairs of theseSperry boots and they have served me well!
4. Camp socks, keep your feet nice and warm for walking across campus through snow!
5. Thick scarves, the wider the better because if the wind is really bad they can cover part of your face (maybe that's only needed where I go to school though...) when walking to class.
 6. Big puffer coat, the longer ones are very nice for walking around campus

Spring:
Typical College Outfit: Spring

All of this I also wear the first few weeks of school when it's still hot out:

1. T shirt dress, so easy and comfy to just put on and go to class, my favorite are Lilly Pulitzer
2. Long sleeve tee, stripes are my favorite for shorts, skirts, and pants
3. Chino shorts
4. White jeans, always a nice alternative to regular jeans when it's warmer out
5. Sandals
6. Rain boots, not sure what I would do without these. Like the items in the fall post, I also wear these a lot in the fall too (they don't do very well in the winter though).
7. Umbrella, same as the rain boots. When you're walking all the way across the campus, and my campus is really small...it's always great to have at least the umbrella or rain boots with you.

But of course I also include, pajamas, work out clothes, underwear, socks, etc. for the whole year.

Also, limit the amount of t shirts you bring because you lots of either free or very cheap ones in college. I probably have up to like 12 by now, and my school doesn't even have a Greek system. But I know they get t shirts all the time!

And for the packing itself I find it easiest to put clothes in space bags and storage containers!

DECOR

College Decor

I usually have some prints on my wall (see a post from last year for some of that) that you can print out and put on the wall with washi tape! I also use some things on my desk like this Lilly Pulitzer tray, a wooden monogram I painted (see the top photo of this post), and a jewelry organizer on a wall. A little tray like in the above set would also be great for organizing smaller pieces of jewelry.

And of course all of your bedding! And fun pillows and things like that, mine is mostly white, I honestly rarely ever make my bed though...

And if you're looking for for some free prints, Classy Cathleen has made a huge round up post for those!

BATHROOM

College bathroom

If you have a communal bathroom, portable shower caddys and shower shoes are a must! I've always had my own bathroom in college, but I used to spend summers in dorms at ballet intensives that had communal bathrooms. If you have your own bathroom, you will probably need a hanging shower caddy, a shower curtain, a bath mat, a toothbrush holder, soap dispenser, a mini trash can
And then the basics like:
Makeup
Shampoo, conditioner, body wash
Hair dryer (the one I use), straightener (the one I use), curling iron (the one I use), and I love this holder for them!
Toothbrush, toothpaste, retainers if you have them
Facial cleanser and makeup remover
Towels

OTHER
Other college needs

This is the most random assortment of things, but I promise they're all useful!

1. Brita water filter (yes I did a sponsored Instagram post for them, but this part is all on my own), seriously they're the best
2. Travel mug
3. Water bottle
4. Laptop case, to bring to class and the library
5. Power strip, for all of your chargers and adapters
6. Steamer, much easier than an iron
7. Vaccuum, and other cleaning supplies (if my family or roommates are reading this, they're probably laughing that I even included that...)
8. Laundry basket and detergent, and quarters if you have to pay for your laundry
9. Microwave
10. Printer, my school has free printing in some of the main buildings like the library, the union, the academic buildings, but it's much more convenient when you finish a paper at 3am to print it out at your own place!
11. Keuring, I use mine at least once a day!

And last but not least your school supplies! I usually don't buy mine until I get to school. However, I'll have a post dedicated just to that coming up soon!

And although you're probably not even thinking about moving out of college and the end of the year, here's a little tip for moving out.
If you also live far away from your school, storage units are great. My roommates are all fromfar away places too so we shared one after freshman and sophomore year. My parents and I planned on getting one for just me this year but we were actually able to fit it all in the 2 cars!
