The Monogrammed Life

Samantha from Subtly Fabulous did some serious research and found student discounts we never knew existed!

All of the above discounts are subject to the location and may be slightly different than what is listed so be sure to ask.  Also, lots of locally owned restuaurants offer discounts so always ask!

Music is a part of my every day life. I listen to it when I am getting ready, during the day at work, and when I am cleaning around the house. I can be doing just about anything and I will still be listening to music. And I'm not picky when it comes to music. I will give anything a try once. When I was in college I would always listen to Baby Einstein or Jazz Pandora stations just so I wasn't sitting in silence. Depending on my mood I will listen to everything from classic rock to alternative and all genres between! The only thing I don't listen to much is the radio or Top 40 hits. I'm not big on hearing the same five songs played over and over all day every day! (Is this weird?!)
I don't know if y'all are like me, but when I hear particular songs and like them they will be on repeat for months to come. (.....maybe that's just me!) It doesn't matter if the song is new or old- if I like it, it will be listened to!

songs of summer 12 by enh410 featuring Kate Spade tech accessories

These are some of my favorite songs that I can listen to at any given time this summer and be instantly in a good mood! These were either stumbled upon (thanks pandora) or friends suggested them to me...and I'm sure glad they did!

Any new music suggestions are welcome! See songs you want to listen to? Lucky you, I've made a Spotify playlist!

Have a listen & enjoy!

Here is a yummy new recipe I tried on a recent girl's beach trip! It's a little twist on a traditional margarita and super yummy!

What you need:
(2) 12 ounce cans of frozen lime concentrate
24 ounces of cherry flavored soda
(2) 12 oz bottles of your favorite beer, I used Miller Chill
12 ounces of your favorite tequila
Lime for garnish

Enjoy!

I have never been a pink person. I was a tomboy growing up so I pretty much never wore any girly colors and mostly just wore Nike shorts and a Nike t-shirt every day.. yea, real cute.
So you could say my obsession with pink is fairly new, as in it just started about a month ago. Maybe the neon trend brought some great hot pink pieces, or maybe summer is just meant to be spent in hot pink. Whatever the reason, I can't stop buying hot pink items.

Have you been wearing a lot of hot pink too?
What's your latest obsession?

One of the main things that I do in the summertime is reading! I absolutely love it and I am always looking for new books to read. Unfortunately, it's super hard to find interesting books! I use my wonderful nook to read books, and I've started to just get samples of books so I can determine whether or not I want to actually buy the books! Here's what I've read so far this summer.

1. I caught up on the Pretty Little Liars series, and I've read #9, #10, and #11! They are not hard to read in the slightest, but they make for a fun, quick summer read!

2. I came across Sorority Sisters when I visited Barnes and Noble in June, and I was pleasantly surprised by it! It was about the friendship of a group of girls in California and I had a great time reading it.

3. The Fixer Upper is such a chick-lit book, but it got a lot better as it went along! It's about a lawyer who is forced to move to Georgia when her boss frames her for political bribery. She ends up renovating an old house that her family owned. It sounds ridiculous but I liked it!

4. Gone Girl. All I can say is BEST BOOK EVER. I am completely serious, I am so so so obsessed with this book it's not even funny. When I finished it, I was in a state of shock for the 24 hours following. I could not stop talking about it. It's about a kidnapping/murder case...that's pretty much all the information I can give away without giving too much away! READ IT!

5. I'm currently reading American Wife. The author, Curtis Sittenfield, wrote the popular book Prep, so I was interested to see what else they had written! It's very good so far, and I hope to finish it soon!

Other books that I have downloaded previews of are The Next Best Thing, Heat Wave, Summer Breeze, Savannah Blues, Something Borrowed, and Beach Music! If anyone has any suggestions, PLEASE let me know! I know we are all looking for some great summer reads!

I discovered The Frat Collection about two months ago and immediately knew I would be a fan! First off, there was a bow tie that I could finally wear (okay so maybe its just their logo, but I was still very excited about it!) They were founded on the idea of a “party shirt” but I think they go beyond just a party shirt. It is such a good shirt for a casual day. Sometimes you just need a comfy shirt for the day and this is where their shirt comes in. You go to their site and make a custom shirt just for you. Pick the pocket design, then pick your shirt color and sleeve length. It is such an original idea and I love it! Also, another huge bonus is that they donate 10% of the price to the philanthropy of choice, so not only are you buying something adorable, but you are giving back too!

Here is the shirt I customized

Now I don’t wear a ton of t-shirts (unless I decide to work on my fitness…) but when I do, this will be my go-to. It is cute and comfy, what more could you want?

p.s. they have tons of pocket designs for both ladies and gentlemen, so check them out!

Stay Fabulous!

Although I was disappointed that Andy Murray wasn't able tow win it for the home team, the Duchess of Perfection most certainly did not dissapoint.  She recycled several pieces from last summer:  her Joseph dress and jacket and her DVF leopard clutch.

Here's my look for less:

Lush 'Drew' Blouson Tank Dress

Kate Spade Loryn Fringed Jacket

Taj Veronice Foldover Clutch

I had a really hard time finding a budget-friendly jacket similar to Kate's, but the dress and clutch are such a good deal, I figured it's worth it to splurge on a timeless tweed jacket!

I haven't been able to find a picture that  shows the shoes she was wearin, but since in the past she's paired both the jacket and the dress with her trusty LK Bennett 'Sledge' pumps, that seems as good a guess as any.

the real deal

If you have been following along on Life With Emily for a while, then it is no surprise to you that I love my "stacks" on my wrists. I am always on the lookout for a new bracelet to add to my collection! My stacks (or arm party...whatever term you prefer!) have become a part of me. I feel 'off' if I forget them in my morning rush!

I always find the best stacks on Pinterest and love trying to find bracelets like the ones I love on there! I really wish people were better at adding comments & sources- it would make my search a looot easier !

Through some of my favorite fashion bloggers (Atlantic Pacific, Elle Bow Room, The Style Scribe) I have become more open to bigger and crazier stacks. They're just too much fun to play around with and it's so easy to accessorize an outfit through stacks of bracelets.

Here are some of my favorites via Pinterest

Here are a few of my stacks. I tend to keep them more classic, but throw some color in here and there! Baby steps until I fill my arms with bulk and tons of color!

I wish I could purchase all of these beauties that I have been eyeing to add to my stack!

Typically, I don't even think twice about NOT eating breakfast. I am usually not even hungry! But lately, I have been hearing things about how important breakfast is... A couple of days ago, I was watching my cooking idol, Ina Garten, make breakfast on The Food Network.  She was making these mouth-watering yogurt parfaits with peaches and honey.  Because I am not that into honey, I decided to create my own!  So... here is my take on the most important meal of the day (that I actually like to eat every morning):

First gather all your ingredients.  Pretty much everything is optional, depending on what kind of fruit you like.  I used vanilla yogurt, raspberries, strawberries, peaches, and granola.

Open the yogurt, mix it well, and pour it into a small bowl. (teacup size)

Next throw in a few raspberries and cut up strawberries

Add another layer of yogurt and put a cut up peach on top of that

Sprinkle a little granola, put a little more yogurt on top and garnish with a raspberry

BON APPETIT!

I was a Bare Minerals girl for years. YEARS. And before that, I wore Makeup Forever. Both of them were pretty reasonable, or so I thought, until I figured out that I was FLYING through the products and having to buy new foundation/powder just about every other month and it really started to add up.

And then I stumbled upon THE Bargain Blonde and her obsession with ELF makeup. Though she's a fellow Texan, I'll have to admit I doubted all this ELF talk for the longest time. Then there was this one day where I drew the line...I was not walking into Ulta to drop another $100 on makeup that doesn't even last a month. I walked my happy butt into Tarjay, picked out a few ELF products and was on my way. You know, foundation, powder, eyeliner and mascara. I was nervous about the colors so I only got a few things to start out with.

That was a couple months ago.

This is today:

Lez just say our friend The Bargain Blonde tells no lies.

Yep. Just about everything I use is an ELF product with the exception of the liquid foundation. It's only $6 and it covers well but my skin is very...and I mean VERY oily and even though it says "Oil Free", my face, with a combination of natural oils, Texas heat and Houston humidity looked like a damn slip and slide by 11am. Those of you with dry skin may be able to pull it off but I can't do it on a daily basis. I prefer the MAC Studio Fix liquid foundation. It covers so well and is able to withstand sweat and water. (Dream come true, right?!) I didn't return the ELF foundation because I figured I can use it when I'm just out and about with nowhere important to go or no one important to see.
Without further adieu...
My go-to top 10 ELF products:
1. Daily brush cleaner: SO important. Clean your brushes ladies! I was spending $13 on MAC's brush cleaner...this one is bigger, does the exact same thing and is only $6. (Online only)
2. High Def Powder: though I think this may cause my skin to break out from time to time, I love the glowing finish it gives to my makeup and it makes my face look as smooth as a baby's butt! I'm still not 100% sure if this is the culprit or if it's just a fluke but you also have to remember I have acne-prone skin that's SUPER sensitive so it shall remain a mystery. I'll try it out a few more times and if Planet Earth decides to take up real estate on my face, I'll be sure to let ya know... $6 (In stores and online)
3. Studio Pressed Powder: LOVE. That's all. Works fantastic. Covers great. Color is perfect. The only bad thing is that it's only sold online and is such a popular item that it gets backordered fairly often. At $3 a piece, I typically order 2-3 at a time... (Online only)
4. Golden Bronzer: Has a tiny bit of shimmer to it and gives my skin that sun kissed look we all love to have year-round. My skin has red undertones so to refrain from looking like Bozo the clown, I only use bronzer on my cheeks instead of blush. $3 (In stores and online)
5. Mineral Foundation: Bare Minerals girls...this is IDENTICAL to the BM foundation...identical. And only $3. I use it as a concealer on my eyelids and around my eyes before applying any eye makeup. On days where I want to wear lighter makeup, I use it all over my face for pretty decent coverage. (Online only)
6. Mascara: Call me a mascara whore but I have a problem with only using one at a time. Yes-I use 3 different tubes every single day. They all do such different things for my lashes so I can never commit to just one. Price range $1-$3. (In stores and online)
7. Eyeliner: I'm a little indifferent about this one. I can't quite figure it out. It stays on well but it's not as dark as I prefer my eyeliner to be and it dulls quickly resulting in sharpening it almost every day. The good thing about it is that it's only $1 and comes with a sharpener so when I originally bought it, I figured if I hate it, at least I get a new sharpener out of the deal. It's just okay...it's a like not love kinda thing so I just keep it in my desk at work and use it at work or as a backup if I run out of my go-to eyeliner. $1 (In stores and online)
8. Baked Blush: I know I said I don't typically use blush but I just got this one in yesterday. I ordered it because it's light and shimmery and can be used as a highlighter. I've tried the liquid highlighters and they make me look like a cheap stripper so I prefer the powders. I tried it out this morning for the first time and LOVED it! The best part...only $3. Oh ya! (Online only)
9. Baked Bronzer: Fantastic. Just got this one in yesterday too. I think it goes on the same as the golden bronzer but I wanted to try something new. Well worth my $3. (Online only)
 10. Pressed Powder: I prefer the studio pressed powder but since they only sell it online and they sometimes run out of stock, I always keep this little cheapy in my makeup bag. I keep one in my desk drawer, too, so I can touch up my face throughout the day. Only $1. (In store and online)
Take it from me...sign up for their emails and order on the days where they offer free shipping. (Don't you know I refuse to pay full price for anything?!) Their shipping takes about 5-7 business days so make sure you order it in a timely manner. ;)
Happy shopping my little elfettes! ;)
