The Monogrammed Life

It is no secret that I have a new found obsession with Trader Joe's. I discovered this gem of a store a few weeks back. My roommate had been going for months, but I never really thought much about switching grocery stores. That is till a few of my friends were already going and I decided to tag along. I knew Trader Joe's offered cheaper prices and catered to smaller portion sizes, but I had no idea what was in-store (no pun intended).

Walking in, it was an absolute madhouse. It reminded me of an afternoon at the local Sam's club, where people were racing around with their buggies, all vying for the best deal. Shoppers were grabbing produce off the shelves like it was the last freaking red pepper on the planet. I was shocked at the animal like behavior that I witnessed. This was until I turned over the bottom of the Organic Chicken Stripes box and skimmed down for the price. FIVE FREAKING DOLLARS??!!! For organic chicken??!! Normally this would cost me close to 10 bucks at my local Safeway, and that's for non-organic chicken. I started walking around the store and was overwhelmed by the affordable prices. At that moment, I was hooked!

I could go on and on about my new found love of the Joe, but I don't want to bore you with that. I am sure y'all know just what I am talking about and have probably been going to this place for years. So in honor of Trader Joe's and the fact tomorrow is Friday, I am sharing one of my favorite recipes. All of these ingredients can be found at the local Joe and trust me, these homemade tacos will make you feel like you're dinning at a local Mexican restaurant in your own home!
Make your own this Taco Thursday!!!
Trader Joe's Chicken Tacos
Recipe is inspired by my friend Ryan Davies' recipe; adding a little twist of my own.

What You'll Need:
Package of Flour Tortilla Shells
Package of Organic Chicken Strips
Package of Taco Seasoning
1 Red Pepper
1 Orange Pepper
1 Red Onion
Package of Blended Mexican Cheese
Olive Oil
Now Follow Me:
Cut into thin slices, both peppers and red onion
In a large skillet, heat on high a tablespoon of olive oil
Cook chicken strips for about 10 minutes, flipping over every 2 minutes
In a medium size skillet, heat on high another tablespoon of olive oil
Insert cut up peppers and red onion
Cook veggies till onions start to caramelize and peppers start to soften
When chicken is close to being done, add taco seasoning to both sides and finish cooking to desired finish
Pour cooked veggies in a small bowl
Move cooked chicken to a cutting board, and shred into thin pieces

Time to build the tacos
In the medium skillet, spray nonstick spray
Heat taco shell for 20 seconds on each side, to crispin' them up
Take taco shell, add layer of chicken, veggie mixture and then top with cheese
Once your tacos are built, place your plate in the microwave for 30 seconds to allow cheese to melt

Voilà, your tacos are complete!
Depending on what you like, you can also add sour cream, lettuce, salsa, etc., to give it even more of a tasty flair!

To accompany your tacos, I enjoy Trader Joe's Pineapple Salsa and corn tortilla chips!

the summer storms are in full force right now.  it seems that every three or so days we get torrential downpours and thunderstorm/tornado warnings.  on these days, i rely on my trust hunters to get me through.  if you do not already have a pair you should really consider investing.  they are classic, fit so well, and come in so many fun colors (i love the pink ones).  i was wary of spending so much at first, but found that they fit so much better than other rain boots because they are tighter around the ankle which keeps them snug on your feet!

i have been loving the double monogram lately :)  i cannot say enough good things about these necklaces.  if you are in the market for either a personalized bar necklace or monogram of any size, use the links below and check out purple mermaid designs!
SHOP THE LOOK
dress: forever 21, old (similar; also love this one) // jacket: old navy // boots: hunter - currently on sale for under $100! // bag: vintage coach (current version) //belt: target // necklaces: purple mermaid designs (bar c/o and monogram) // earrings: kate spade // sunglasses: c/o sunglass warehouse // nails: essie "lilacism" // lips: mac "snob" + bare minerals "charisma"

until last week when we drove down to LA,
we hadn't taken a good road trip in a while.
we love planes and how they get us right where we
want to go, but there's something nostalgic and
magic about a good road trip. summer is the season
for them, and since we just took one down the coast
i thought i'd post a few trips for great road trips!
{plus, we leave on another one today for
memorial day...so it was only fitting!}

1. be flexible.
trust me. i know about wanting to have a schedule and itinerary on a trip, but part of the beauty of a road trip is the flexibility..... so don't take that away! you can have a plan, but make sure to stop at random lookouts, take breaks, and be spontaneous. it's part of the fun of driving yourself. there are fun apps like roadside america for finding unique stops! find hidden gems, stop at lookouts, and take the scenic route. a road trip is not all about the destination, it should be about the journey too!

2. be smart about your start.
especially on summer weekends, it will make a major difference if you get an early head start on the road before other cars. it makes time pass faster because you're up and driving in the early hours while everyone is still asleep! if you can't leave early in the morning, try to leave later at night after rush hour and maybe go halfway. a roadtrip is much more relaxing without lots of traffic at the beginning :)
3. gas up.
i have never run out of gas {knock on wood} but we have had some tense close calls where you're on empty and there's not another gas station for 30 miles...haha! these are some funny memories of holding our breath until we pull into a gas station, but it's better to just be ahead of the game. fill up midweek before prices go up on weekends, and if you're low and pass a station -- err on the side of caution and fill up.

4. pack snacks.

this is one of the most important ones for me. there is NOTHING worse than being trapped in a car with nothing to eat! then stopping and having gas station hot dogs as your only option. no! go to the store and get favorite snacks, and make or buy some great sandwiches or burritos that you can eat on the road. bring a cooler with veggies, peanut butter, apples, bananas, and water...and some treats to stay awake of course!

5. bring good music.
music can be the best part of a road trip...so don't start your trip unprepared. make a mix, find a great pandora station, or choose some podcasts/ books on tape to keep you entertained. if you plan them ahead of time, you'll be glad!

6. stop & stretch.
make sure to get out and stretch/walk around anytime you stop. it's important to circulate your blood and move around so you don't get sore! i've even done some roadside yoga with the sunset before...i recommend it!

7. don't get lost.
roadtrips become less fun when you miss a turn and add hours to your trip. it's fun to take breaks for little side excursions on purpose, but have a map app running so you always know where you are and where you're headed. it will also advise you on traffic and accidents, which is essential in certain cities so you can adjust your route!

8. be comfy.
don't "dress up" for a road trip. you can look cute, but comfy! i almost always wear leggings, a t-shirt, flip flops, and a hoodie so that i am as comfy as possible and can relax. bring sunglasses for driving too!

9. be careful.
when you're on a long drive, it can be easy to look down and realize you're going 95! don't let the open road tempt you -- be careful and follow the rules. it's not worth an accident, road traffic injury, or ticket!

10. go with good company.
road trips with other people are not only less expensive, they are more fun. you can chat, sing, play games, and switch drivers. plan your roadtrip with others so you stay safe, cost-effective, and entertained. this weekend we have the best company, our favorite friends. i'm sure the drive will go so fast because of this!
hope these help!
tell me where you want
to take your next roadtrip to!

Last week I walked into Pottery Barn with my mom and I was instantly in heaven. It made me look forward to the day where I’ll get a place of my own and decorate however I want. Ahh I can’t wait!

Until then I can only drool over other people’s spaces and dream about how I’m going to decorate my dorm room next year.

One apartment I have always swooned over is Mackenzie Horan’s. Between Mackenzie’s bright red hair and her flawless style, it’s easy to fall in love with her.  Glitter Guide did an apartment tour a few months back and ever since then I constantly find myself referencing those pictures for inspiration. Mackenzie just recently moved into a new apartment downtown and I am anxiously waiting to see what she does with her new space! If her new apartment is anything like her old one, I’m sure it will be picture perfect.

Here is just a peek into her New York City apartment: for therest of the picture be sure to visit the glitter guide post about her!

Flawless right? It makes me want to run out and buy all new room décor! I’ve picked out a few pieces inspired by her color scheme!

Rug | Throw Pillow | Fashion Print | Striped Mug | Serving plate
Anchor | Chair | Vase | Salt and Pepper Set | Vase Print |Dinner Set | Mirror

What are you inspired by right now?

Lilly Pulitzer Scarf // A Cut Above Boutique Dress, old, very similar // Marley Lilly Cross Body // Ray Ban Original Wayfarer //  Maui Jim Baby Beaches in bronze // LC by Lauren Conrad Shoes, sold out, very similar  // Photo Credit to Dom :)

This week's theme is accessories!
It is a no-brainer that this Lilly Pulitzer Murfee Scarf is my all time favorite accessory.  My love for this scarf knows no bounds.  I bought it about 3 years ago and wear it nonstop, regardless of the season.  It's the perfect summer scarf, but also adds the perfect pop of color to a winter outfit!  The bright colors make me fall in love every time I see it, and the silk and cashmere mix makes it unbelievably soft.  If we're being honest here I would just wrap myself in it and wear it every day if it was big enough.

After the scarf, by second favorite way to accessorize is with sunglasses.  My Ray Bans and Maui Jim Baby Beaches are in constant rotation.  I particularly love my baby beaches because I adore the aviator look, but I have a narrow face and just look silly!  These smaller aviators fit my face without being overbearing.

Today marks the first post in a three part series, all tailored to the summer (or really any time) intern. In today's society, landing your dream job doesn't just come from receiving a higher education and having a great GPA. To be hired, potential employers want to see applicants with experience. Experience through organizations, leadership roles, volunteer work and yes, internships. It's almost a requirement now to be hired for a full-time job. Don't get me wrong, education and classroom taught programs are extremely important and in most cases a necessity, but there are certain things you just can't learn in a classroom. This is why internships are extremely vital in gaining employment after graduation.

I've had a lot of experience working with interns, assisting in hiring interns, searching through hundreds of applications and of course, being an intern myself. Everyone has different reasons for applying for certain internships, but etiquette within the workplace is comparable throughout most environments. The work you do and the impression you make can be the deciding factor in receiving that recommendation toward your dream job. Anyone can fill up their resume with an internship here and an internship there, but it's what you do during those few summer weeks that can land you the job after graduation.

In the first part of this series, I put together a list of some common etiquette that everyone and anyone should adhere to when applying for or working an internship.

**(Side note: If you haven't seen the movie The Internship, it's a must see. An absolutely hilarious movie, yet offers plenty of great advice for the first time intern!)

Know the Company You're Applying For
You're not going to enjoy the internship if you don't know what you're getting yourself into. Study up and do your research before applying to something you may not wish to be a part of.

Always Be Eager to Help
Employers love nothing more than someone who is eager to help and does it with a smile on their face. Don't act like a certain task is above doing. It's more than likely the rest of the staff have done this task before, even the one who hired you.

Leave the Romance Outside the Office
An internship may be a great way to make new friends and meet new people, but it's also not the place for an inner office romance. Don't use your lunch break for mini-lunch dates. You may be the "man on campus," but you don't want to be the "man of the office." Keep your work life and personal life, separate.

Don't Over Share on Social Media
Sometimes you unfortunately get stuck working for someone you don't get along with or who isn't the nicest. However, that doesn't mean you should tell the whole social media world about it.
WHAT YOU PUT ON SOCIAL MEDIA MATTERS... (I can never say that enough people, ha!)

Don't Be Afraid to Ask Questions
It's always better to ask, then assume. Getting clarification on something can save you in the end.

Don't Oversell Yourself
It's hard to find an intern these days who doesn't have an already impressive resume. Your fellow interns most likely have an equally impressive resume as yours, so don't place yourself above others. Be humble and you'll be surprised how far you can go.

Leave the Partying for the Weekend
While the few weeks away from home offer plenty of time to have fun, leave the pub crawls and pregames for the weekends. You don't want to be "that" intern who shows up late and not in the best state. If you attend Happy Hours during the week, limit yourself. Happy Hours and Receptions can be a great networking tool, but don't be the fool who embarrasses themselves.

Respect Advice Given
You may not be a fan of constructive criticism, but however it may come across, the coworker is just trying to help you. Odds are they respect you and want to see you succeed.

Always Be On Time (no explanation needed)

Dress Appropriately for the Environment
More about this tomorrow, but take your time to dress appropriately for your office environment.

Always Say Thank You
A thank you note or departing gift to the office manager or intern coordinator, goes MILES in their book. Remember, they're the one writing your letter of recommendation or filling out that post internship review. Make sure your gift and/or card is appropriate for the office environment.

As school is winding down for everyone and summer is starting, it’s important to make the most of your time! Summer (like always) is already flying by! After work or on the weekends, it’s hard to stay motivated and want to get things done! But there are a few small activities that I feel are always on everyone’s to-do list but just never get around to doing.

Now with summer practically here, we finally have time to get some of those things crossed off the list.

Image via Pinterest

Update the music on your phone- I have a note in my iPhone full of songs I have wanted to download and add to my phone for months. New songs just keep coming out and my list just keeps growing and growing.

Organize the files on your computer (pictures, word documents)- I tried really hard when I got my new computer before going off to college to keep my computer organized. But things happen, and you get busy, and you’re rushing to finish something and documents, pictures, power-points get saved out of place. My goal by the end of the summer is to have things I no longer need deleted and everything else put in their place (or folder!).

Go through all of your clothes- When I still lived at home my mom made me go through my closet every month and get rid of things I no longer need or use. Since I’ve been at school for the last 9 months I haven’t had time to go through my clothes. As hard as it is to get rid of certain pieces, ask yourself when was the last time you wore it. And if it’s been over a month, put it in the giveaway pile!Or make a few dollars and take it to a consignment shop!

Clear out the pictures on your phone- One of the most annoying things is to get to notification that you can’t take any more pictures on your iPhone because you don’t have enough space. It always seems to happen at the worse time too! Avoid this problem by deleting the pictures that aren’t needed (I have a screenshot problem) and freeing up some space by transferring your photos over to your computer!

Prepare for the next school year- Before the school year starts I typically try to prepare all my school supplies (make binders, get backpack) and now that I’m in college it takes a lot more planning and preparing! It’s a lot easier to slowly prepare over the summer rather than trying to cram everything into the last few days of summer. If you need an in depth packing list I made a pretty good one, if I do say so myself! ;)

What’s on your summer to-do list?!

I am thrilled to share this look with you all and if you are thinking this dress looks familiar, you are correct. I wore it the night of my engagement where I posted the story here, but with such a whirlwind of surprises there is no way any blog pictures were taken. I recreated the look a bit differently this time by pairing the most amazing statement necklace with thisNatalie Deayala dress. It was too perfect that this dress arrived just a few days prior to what is now the biggest day of my life. Her collection is so feminine and chic, and she works a lot with brides and bridal parties for that effortless elegant look. The extra bonus is this dresses definitely can work for numerous occasions and can easily be worn again (unlike so many bridesmaid dresses). I hope you all have a fabulous Friday!
