The Monogrammed Life

Jacket: J. Crew     Shirt: J. Crew      Jeans: 7 for all Mankind      Boots: Wills London  ℅      Sunglasses: Stella McCartney (similar)      Lips: Tarte in "Bae" (available here)

It's beginning to look like fall over here in SoCal, and I'm loving it.  This outfit pretty much encompasses all of my favorite staples for autumn!  One of them is the Field Jacket by J. Crew- it's one of the pieces J. Crew makes with a cult following.  It's a waxed cotton jacket that is super durable and achieves that outdoorsy, adventurous look with a nice structure, and I love when they bring it back every year come august.

Of course, another one of my fall staples are a good pair boots.  These riding boots by Wills Vegan Shoes have been my go-to footwear lately- they are such beautiful quality and I love the simple yet classic design.  They pair so nicely with everything!

As for the rest of the outfit, I think it goes without saying that jeans are a must during the cold seasons.  I always opt for a skinny dark wash- it's the most versatile and typically the most flattering (at least for me).  Striped shirts are a really great layering piece for all seasons and I like having a thicker breton style during this season.  Add on my go-to red lipstick, and that's my favorite fall outfit!

What's yours?

DIY CENTERPIECE FOR FALL

Hello, party people! We made it to another Friday (thank heavens). Yesterday was the first day of Fall, officially, and I could NOT have been more stoked. One of the things I was looking forward to most this season was decorating my little apartment! I grew up watching my mom decorating our home with beautiful fall decorations and honestly, I was so spoiled. Our home was always beautiful, always put together. I want to do that for my husband and our future family! I wanted to show you the pretty DIY table decoration I made (and also: it cost less than $10). SO. Let’s do this.

DIY Centerpiece For Fall
Easy DIY fall table decoration
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
  1. 1 glass vase
  2. 5 little baby gourds
  3. 1 large plate
  4. brown burlap ribbon
Easy DIY fall table decoration
So I already had the burlap ribbon and the large plate (but I am sure they don’t cost that much at a craft store). I bought the glass vase for 3.50 and the little baby gourds for $2.97. So cheap but so cute!
Arguably the most important part of this little centerpiece is the bow on the front! I thought that a regular bow would be too small, so I got fancy and did a bigger one! It is super easy to achieve this look! All you have to do is cut a piece of ribbon long enough to tie a bow (it’ll just be like a free bow, don’t tie it to the vase yet). Then, cut another piece of ribbon long enough to go around the vase. Tie it one around the vase, then put the free bow right in the center of the first tie you made. Next, tie a bow around the free bow you placed in the middle. Fluff out the ribbon pieces and angle it the way you think looks best! So easy, and looks way more complicated than it actually is. ðŸ™‚

Now that your vase is done, choose the three smallest gourds you have and arrange them inside the vase. With the last few, arrange them outside the vase, on the plate! It would be perfect on a coffee table! I don’t have one of those, so I have mine on the end of my kitchen table. ðŸ™‚

Hopefully you liked this post and little tutorial and are able to DIY some fun fall decorations for yourself this year! What are some of your favorite ways to decoration for the season? I think I am going to attempt a wreath next!

I love this amazing time of year — and halloween is JUST around the corner. I AM SO EXCITED. You guys aren’t going to believe what I have in store! ALSO: I designed some really cute fall printables for all of you! With the word apartment in this post I hope I am not teasing you too much when it comes to an overall reveal of my apartment living spaces but being the caffeine obsessed college student I am I couldn't help but set up my own little coffee station to sustain all of my coffee consumption needs. Think of this as your first look into my apartment which you'll be seeing a whole lot of next week (hope that makes you as excited as me)!

Since our apartment kitchens don't have dishwashers much of the counter space is taken up by dish drying racks and our microwave making the available counter space prime real-estate. To avoid adding one more thing to that area last year I decided to purchase a small cart from ikea to hold our Keurig and coffee mugs. Not only does this fill up some floor space in the awkward area between the kitchen island and living room but it also has become a functional space that adds a little extra interest to the room. This year the area has become that much cuter just by adding brighter mugs with the cutest whimsical and clever designs.

If you've seen some of my other room tours or the gallery wall I've had in my room then you probably know that I adore all things Evelyn Hensen! As a Furman alumnae with so much talent who may even love color more than I do it is so easy to celebrate her successes through the addition of new prints and products of hers year after year. After acquiring so many of her precious and preppy prints I decided that in addition to getting a few of her new designs (released yesterday) on paper her mugs would be the perfect addition to our coffee cart and I couldn't have been more right! With a lot of white from the walls, keurig, and cart the pop of color these mugs give make the space a place where friends stop to look at just what each one says. Although I have loved all of her pieces this years fall and winter collection may just be my favorite and will surely have you filling your cart fast.

Since a coffee cart is more than just the mugs on it I thought it would be fun to breakdown what other essentials we keep close at hand to easily grab coffee (or tea) on the go or prepare a more leisurely cup to enjoy on our couches.

Keurig || An essential for any coffee cart or college student! We have a white Keurig 250 2.0 in our apartment and it is the perfect size for multiple girls looking to grab a cup on the way out the door. The water reservoir is large enough to make a few cups and the machines overall size is small enough to not take up too much space in a small dorm room either. I was particularly drawn to this model because of the colors offered and was so tempted to get a turquoise blue version but didn't want it to be too matchy with our coffee table (although that would've been ironic now that I think about it) or impractical in the future.

K Cups || You may not be able to tell from the photos but this cart actually has a draw that slides out that is the perfect size to fit 50+ K-cups. While that sounds excessive I should probably keep to myself how many times we re-filed it last year... It is so satisfying to open it up and see all of the options and extra convenient that the k-cups don't have to take up space on a shelf or in our pantry! My personal favorite K Cups are Donut Shop and any of Starbucks varieties. I could go for another cup just thinking about them.

Travel Mugs | Since I've always expressed my love of the mugs we have on display I thought I should also note that paper travel mugs have also been a hit and are easily accessible on our stand. I found ours at Target and love how cute they are and that after enjoying my coffee in class I can get rid of the mug and not have to think about keeping up with it all day as I would have to when using a regular travel mug.

So far I am loving waking up with the choice of which fun mug to use and am in awe of all of the wonderful designs Evelyn offers. Little side story, I originally found Evelyn due to her drawings depicting various landmarks in different cities and the fact that she has started to put those illustrations has really allowed that to come full circle. What a perfect gift to give to a friend new in the area or moving elsewhere!

I hope y'all enjoyed this look at our coffee cart and maybe found come inspiration from it. Even if you'd rather use it as a bar cart, this gives you an idea of how to make the space it takes up functional and festive as an extra interest piece in your own apartment!

Even though this was a short work week it felt incredibly long, not to mention stressful! I think everything that could go wrong did! Needless to say, I’m happy it’s the weekend. If you popped in last Friday, you’ll know that I decided to start a new series called “Five Things.” I started the series with Five Things About Me and today I’m back to share the five things I always keep in my handbag! Click through to read about what I always carry!

First up, let’s chat about the bag. As you all know, I have been a loyal GiGi New York fan for years and years. They make a quality product that I can personally attest to (because I am hard on bags!) One of my favorite bags of theirs is the Gates Satchel. The style is so chic and it’s very spacious. I find myself carrying this one often, especially in the fall.

1. LIP PRODUCTS | I am a sucker for lip products. If you know me in real life, then you know I am always putting on chapstick and it’s scattered in every bag and drawer around my house! Below are a few of my favorite lip products that I make sure to have on hand…. a few chapsticks, a few glosses, and a few lipsticks!

2. SUNGLASSES | There’s nothing worse than driving or walking around without sunglasses! Ok, so maybe I’m being a bit dramatic, but it does totally suck! I always make sure I have a paid in my bag before heading out. Shop my favorites below…

3. PORTABLE CHARGER | My battery is constantly dying on my phone. It’s like as soon as my feet hit the floor my battery is at 50% already haha! Throughout the day I try to charge it whenever I can, so I throw a portable charger in my bag so I’m not stranded without a phone!

4.BOOK | It’s no secret around here that I love to read. I like to keep a book with me so that I can read a few pages between appointments, in waiting rooms, etc. I’ve been doing this for years now and it really helps pass the time while waiting somewhere! I’m currently reading In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware and it’s good (not as good as The Woman in Cabin 10, but a page turner!) P.S. I have a made a virtual bookshelf to share what books I’m reading/read!

5. MY PLANNER | I’m one of those people that write everything down. I love technology, but when it comes to my schedule, my to-do list & taking notes I like to put pen to paper! Speaking of planners, I feel like I can never find one that fits all of my needs. Every one that I try is constantly lacking something, whether it’s writing space, a place for extra notes, etc. I spotted this Day Designer at Target the other day fro $20 and decided to give it a try. So far I really like the amount of space it has and that it has specific spots for to-do lists and notes!
