I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!! I felt so very blessed to spend time with my family and celebrating Jesus's birthday! Oh, and the weather down here in Florida was absolutely perfect, giving my sister and I the chance to try out her new camera (thanks, Santa!!).
Wishing you a very merry and bright rest of 2013!!
So remember how I was gonna start blogging again? Well...our internet and cable (my lifelines) still aren't set up, which has been a massive pain in my keester. It's been a whole saga, but the long and short of it is that it may be up to another two weeks before it's all set up. Thank you internet and cable guys for being rifreakindiculous.
However, while I've been banned free from internet, The Bachelor, and all my Bravo shows, it's forced given me more time to get the house organized and start decorating and getting it how I want it, which is oh so fabulous :)
My latest obsession, and I mean obsession, has been my new bar cart! Y'all. I've always wanted one, and now that I have one, I really just can't get enough, and all day every day, my gears are turning about all the little knickknacks I need to make it absolutely perfect. I might have also maxed out my entire iPhone data plan perusing beautifully styled bar carts all over the interwebs. So, I figured, why not fuel this obsessive little fire of mine and post some of my favorite bar cart inspirations?
If you read yesterday’s post, you know I’m moving this weekend and my new apartment is a bit smaller than my current place. Which means lots of creative storage solutions. And on a budget.
I’ve seen IKEA’s Expedit series pop up on Pinterest and at several friends’ homes so I visitedIKEA.com to investigate. And I fell down the IKEA rabbit hole. If you’ve been to an IKEA, you know exactly what I’m talking about. You go in with a plan and suddenly, my wish list was $300. #Yikes.
While I have fond memories of IKEA, a friend mentioned concerns that a room “could look too IKEA-y.” It’s true, IKEA is known for its college apartment vibe and can look cheaply thrown together. However, I believe a little TLC + DIY can really elevate an item to make it truly you.
Googling IKEA hacks, I fell down another rabbit hole. Who knew there were so many IKEA fan sites?? Not this girl that’s for sure. IKEA Hackers has awesome ideas and even a search on Pinterest will give you ample inspiration. I can’t wait to share with you my own Expedit styling, stay tuned!
Hey Y'all! We'd like for you to meet one of our newest bloggers - Kendall! She is a twenty-something gal living in the busy city known on the Big Apple. She grew up right outside Philadelphia, attended the University of Delaware (Go Blue Hens!) then fulfilled my dream of moving to New York City and becoming a Child Life Specialist. You can read more about her on our Meet the Bloggers page! Be sure to head on over to her blog, StyledSnapshots and follow along! We hope you enjoy her first blog post as a Monogrammed Life blogger here:
Besides having limited space and storing clothing in awkward places (thank you NYC apartment living), I try and maximize what's hanging in my closet. Lately I have been wearing this lightweight dress with flared jeans by tucking it in to create a top. In an instant you have a totally different look that doesn't require an extra hanger in your closet. You should also know by now that I can not resist a great statement necklace, so I have teamed up with Jewelry Nut Auctions (JNA) for this post. Here are the details:
Unfortunately both the dress + jeans are from my college days, but you can shop a few fun options below:
Like any girl, err-woman, I change up my hair and makeup regimen as often as I change my underwear. #fact Don't you?
I've listed my beauty favorites on several different occasions (such as here and here okay and here, too) but because it's a new year and I feel like I've started using several new (to me) products, I feel it's my duty to share them with the world. (AKA: you).
I've seen this stuff everywhere. More so than the Naked Pallets, which I refuse to purchase because all it is is a marketing gimmick. Yes-the Naked2, Naked3 and Naked535 are all schemes to get you to buy a pallet of eyeshadows you'll most likely never wear, and therefore, I refuse to spend my dollhairs on them. Plus-I'm not a huge eyeshadow gal anyways so for me, honestly, it would be a complete waste. Sorry to burst your bubble. Anywho...back to the subject at hand...my girlfriend Ashley recommended this as she gets it in a shade lighter and uses it for a highlighter under her eyes. Holy mother of a difference. I don't feel that I have bags or dark circles under my eyes but the second I put this stuff on it was like magic. My eyes automatically felt "lifted" and more open. It's weird. But it's true and I don't know how else to explain it. I'm pretty disappointed I've gone all 27 years of my life without purchasing this product. And only $20 for an amount that seems like it would last me 6 months? Yes and yes.
I've been a fan of the cream/gel eyeliners for quite some time now. They don't go on near as messy as a pencil, yet doesn't look as "tattooed" on as liquid. It's like the happy medium of eyeliner. It stays on like like nobody's business and does. not. run. Of course, I use a pencil eyeliner for the inside of my bottom lid (what is that thing called, anyway?). I have large and in charge eyes and therefore, lots of eyeliner is required for me. Oh-and the brush that comes with this is like nothing I've used before. SO soft and SO fine. If you've never tried a gel liner before, I highly HIGHLY recommend this one!
I'd like to personally thank Aubrey Kinch for my newest journey in the nude lipstick department for this one. Sister had me scouring the aisles at Target to find the perfect shade of nude lipstick and this one took the cake instantly. I prefer to wear a gloss on top of it, but Mrs. Kinch herself can pull off one heck of a nude lip. I can only dream of rocking nude lipstick like she does one day...le sigh.
This would be the 'said' gloss I like to pair with my nude lipstick. I've never been able to pull off reds, browns or pinks so this combo, I feel, gives me the perfect lip I've been looking for for like, ever. Oh-and it's not all gooey-gummy like some lip glosses I've tried in the past.
You're looking at a game-changer when it comes to applying foundation. Sure-this brush holds a pretty price tag but I'd be lying if I said I haven't had it for more than 3 years. Good brushes are worth the investment...trust me on that one. The stipple brush, or whatever fancy name they call it...I just adore. If you've never used one before, it's mainly used to apply foundation. Because the stipple brush was designed with thicker, sturdier hairs, you don't use this brush to swipe or wipe across your face. You put a little foundation on the end of the hair and dab it onto your face, getting it to penetrate into your pores. (Penetrate. Ha! Hi-I'm 5.) I mean, that's what I do with it anyway. After you've dabbed your entire face, you go back for round two, but this time gently wiping your foundation on top of the first layer of foundation you dabbed on. Hence the term: "layering your foundation". I am obsessed with the look smooth look the stipple brush can do for your foundation application. If you've never tried one before, what on earth have you been doing with your life?
I'm not a huge product junkie when it comes to my hair. My hair is super oily and prone to breakage (thanks to highlighting and styling) so I really don't use a lot on my hair. That is, until I was introduced to the Kerawhip. If there is one thing on this planet that can make your hair feel like silk when it's wet and dry, it's this stuff. It comes out like a mousse, you let it soak into the ends of your hair for 10-15 minutes or longer. The longer, the better! (That's what she said...) I swear to you...my hair felt like satin as I was rinsing it out. How can hair feel so soft when it's sopping wet? I don't know but I do know that the Kerawhip made it possible.
What are your favorite beauty products right now?! Apparently I'm in the market for trying any and everything new so shout 'em out! I NEED to know what I've been missing out on!
With my new semester beginning today I though there would be no better time than now to share my necessities to make the semester a little brighter!
1. Notebooks:
I have 4 classes this semester therefore I have 4 notebooks this semester. My favorites are 5 star's three-subect notebooks, college-ruled of course! Be sure to get a different color for each class (you can coordinate it with the pen you use to write assignments down in your agenda) and throw a monogrammed sticker on the front to personalize it! PS. If necessary you can rib out the subject dividers to make 1 mega notebook, that is my favorite way to do it! Check out lots of my favorite notebooks here.
2. Agenda:
Don't have one? Get up and go get one now! Who knows if I would get anywhere or have accomplished anything without mine. Grab a pretty one (Lilly Pulitzer, Kate Spade, Sugar Paper La for Target) and get organized! Check out how I organize mine here!
3. Le Pen Bic:
My killer combo! Not much explanation needed here. Le Pen are essential for my agenda and to-do lists while Bic Atlantis Pens are my favorite for note taking! (Highlighters rock too!)
4. Colorful Post Its and Pretty Note Pads:
Certainly necessary for to-do lists, my favorites! I am much more inclined to accomplish tasks if I can check a box or cross an item off. Am I the only one who thinks that way?
5. Pretty Paper Attachers:
Can you say Kate Spade binder clips or paper clips? I die! I need these in my life to encourage cohesiveness in my school work this semester!
6. Binder:
Throw some dividers in here and this is the perfect place to put handouts for all you classes! It is nice only need one!
On Friday Brian and I decided we needed a date night. Even though we see each other daily, it's nice to have a date night and enjoy each other's company without the distractions. We did dinner and drinks then went to see Wolf of Wall Street. (Has anyone seen this movie? Knowing the premise of the movie and reading some background information, I still really liked it!) I decided to wear something comfortable, yet feminine! I kind of just threw this outfit together and loved the result! It's fun to play around in your closet sometimes to see what you come up with, isn't it? Layering certainly was needed in thefreezing movie theatre! I hope y'all had a great weekend!
