The Monogrammed Life

Lately I have been pairing my denim shorts with just about everything. They are so comfortable, versatile, and they are the easiest option when I'm on the go! This past weekend I wore this floral blazer from Juliana's with an easy tank and my favorite distressed denim shorts for running errands and playing around town. This blazer is super light weight and under $40, so it's great for spring and summer (since I am always cold when I go in places!)

Edible Funfetti Cookie Dough | dcgirlinpearls.com
Oh boy. I really did it this time.
The sprinkles in the pantry were just BEGGING to be baked into a cake, brownies, cookies. Sprinkling them on a scoop (okay, 3 scoops) of ice cream just wasn’t cutting it anymore.
It all started so innocent. I was just going to bake funfetti cookies and call it a day.
Sometimes, I just can’t help myself. Blame it on the heat but a lightbulb went on in my brain. What’s better than funfetti cookies?

Edible Funfetti Cookie Dough Ice Cream Sandwiches!!!
YUP THAT HAPPENED.
When I was little and would help my mom bake, standing on a chair to reach the cabinet, my mom instilled in me that cake batter + cookie dough were unsafe to eat because of raw egg. In my 5 year old brain, I interpreted this as “Eat cookie dough or cake batter and immediately get sick.” Well, that wasn’t going to happen to me so I remained cake batter + cookie dough-free until about 6 years later when I rebelled and snuck a taste of yellow cake batter.
There are just some things you can’t un-taste and OMG yellow cake batter tasted incredible.
And edible funfetti cookie dough tastes like heaven.

Add a scoop of ice cream to frozen edible cookie dough and oh man, you’re all set.

Ingredients (Makes About 18 Cookies)

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons clear imitation vanilla extract (real vanilla extract may be substituted)
1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
milk
3/4 cup sprinkles

Directions

Combine the butter, sugar, extracts, and beat on medium-high speed until light and fluffy.
Mix in flour and milk. Add the milk 1 tablespoon at a time until the dough reaches its desired consistency.
Fold in sprinkles with a spatula.
Cover bowl tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
Enjoy!!

When looking around Nordstrom’s site a few weeks ago, I came across this chambray tank with neon embroidery and could not stop thinking about it. With an affordable price-point and free-flowing structure, I knew it would be perfect with matching neon shortsduring the day and then white denim when it started to cool off at night. When wearing a more cropped top and white denim, I prefer to wear a wedge or heel to elongate my leg. White denim can be a friend or foe, but if you utilize a few simple tips you will want to wear them all summer long.
I don’t know about you all, but I am beyond antsy for this weekend to arrive. My best friend and roommate of all four years of college is getting married and I couldn’t be any more excited! I have just a half day of work to get through tomorrow, and then venture out of the city and back to my hometown for what is sure to be a memorable weekend. If you are curious of our bridesmaid dresses, mine is this little lace number in champagne paired with my go-to, blush patent heel for every single occasion.

Memorial Day Fruit + Cheese Salad Jars |dcgirlinpearls.com
Anybody else completely forget about the long weekend coming up? And the fact that swimsuit season is pretty much upon us?
I’d rather not talk about the bagels, chicken fingers + tacos I ate this weekend like a 5 year old who was left home alone. So I’m hitting the reset button and doing my best to get my fruits, veggies + lean proteins in this week. But what about the weekend? With the Memorial Day BBQs and picnics, it’s pretty easy to snack and go overboard with burgers, hot dogs + macaroni salads. Speaking from experience.
So, in the spirit of trying not to eat like a child, I wanted to come up with a healthy Memorial Day picnic snack. Of course, it had to be red, white + blue.

Hello, Fruit + Cheese Jar Salads!
Because honestly, I wasn’t really sure what to call these little guys…
Full disclosure: I originally wanted to have the fruit + cheese be on a skewer but the cheese didn’t take kindly to be skewered. So I had to go with a back-up plan but I think the mini-canning jar works perfectly.
Is there anything more Americana than a canning jar?
Nope. There is not.

Keeping the red, white + blue theme going, IZZE Sparkling Blueberry is a fun drink for the Memorial Day weekend! Just add a red stripe straw for instant-Memorial Day picnic fun.
And it’s easy on the waistline, too ; )
Though if you added some prosecco or vodka, I wouldn’t mind. It’s a long weekend, after all!

Oh, and my American flag koozie is hands down one of the best post-brunch Target run finds of all time!! I couldn’t find it online but here’s a pretty patriotic koozie set if you’re looking for Memorial Day party favors. It’s also never too early to stock up for 4th of July!

I've mentioned before on the blog that I typically don't wear a lot of jewelry. I never have, probably because most of my youth was spent on the pool deck or in sweats. Yuckk. Even though I now am in the real world with a job, I still tend to not wear a lot of jewelry. Mainly because I live in DC and go through security multiple times a day. I definitely don't want to be THAT person who holds up the line taking countless bracelets and rings off. So I tend to stick to the basics. Since I wear minimal jewelry, I usually invest in more expensive pieces. Pieces that I can wear on the reg and will last a long time. So for today's post, I'm sharing some of my favorite investment pieces.

Necklaces: I get most of my necklaces from Loft, Ann Taylor, Kendra Scott and BaubleBar. While these aren't relatively expensive stores, I usually find some gorgeous statement pieces from them. I wear the Courtney Bib as much as I possibly can, and the monogram is a great piece to pair with a bolder necklace. I also can't get enough wear out of my Kendra Scott tassel necklace. I wear it at least twice a week and am thinking of getting the black one next.

Necklaces

Gold Bib // Black Tassel // Teal Stone // Monogram // Kendra Scott // Blue Tassel // Opal Collar

Earrings: Honestly, this area of jewelry is the most minimal for me. I believe that I look horrible in dangly earrings, so studs it is. I have my go-to pearls, diamond and gold studs. I alternate between these three.

Bracelets/Watches: Like I said above, I don't want to be "that" girl who holds up the line because I'm wearing ten thousand bracelets. So I have my Michael Kors watch, BaubleBar bracelet and various others that I wear most of the time. I also tend to look for pieces that don't have metal in them. That saves me lots of time when going through security at work.

Bracelets

Tortoise Watch // Tassel Set // Festival Tassel // Gold Watch // Round Cut Gem Bracelet

Rings: I love rings. Rings are my favorite piece of jewelry, and an area where you can really make a statement. I tend to spend less money on rings though, because over time I've gotten pretty bad at taking them off to wash my hands, and ultimately losing them. But some of my favorites have been found from BaubleBar, C.Wonder (may it rest in peace) and H&M. H&M surprisingly has some great statement rings.

Do you have a go-to piece of jewelry that you invest in? Let me know what it is in the comments below. I always love discovering new pieces to add to my collection!

When you have wanted something for 10 years you feel a) super old and b) relieved when you finally get that item and it lives up to all your hopes and dreams ;)  I have wanted these Adidas sneakers since the 8th gradeand my husband finally made them mine this Easter.  I have been wearing them constantly on the weekends, casually with white jeans and then yesterday with a dress.  I am so glad that sneakers are a trend right now because they bring out my former tomboy and I love how they look with otherwise girly looks.

Also, can we just talk about this dress for a second?!  OMG it's love.  I wore it Friday, gave it a day off on Saturday and then wore it again yesterday - I just can't justify leaving this thing hanging in the closet, it's too good.  And under $25!  If you are tall, I would size down and wear it as a tunic/top, but if you are short like me (5'6") then it fits just fine as a dress.  I wore it with booties as well and it looks great like that too!  In fact, I love it so much I just ordered a super similar dress in white!

PS:  My husband and I are downsizing apartments next month, so I am selling some stuff on Instagram: a bunch of clothes, some makeup, and will be adding some jewelry soon.  Be sure to follow @shopGHL to buy!!!
