July & August Book Reviews
Oh man y'all, I've kind of fallen off the reading wagon in a bad way the past two months and I've got a short book review to share with you today. I know it sounds kind of terrible, but I've just been so busy lately that when I do have those precious few minutes of free time, I usually just want to rest my brain and do/watch something totally mindless (#RealHousewives #BachelorInParadise). I think I just needed a great book to get me back in the habit- so do y'all have any reccomendations? Send them my way!
The Light We Lost || 5 out of 5
This book was a little controversial- I read a lot of reviews that said it was a page turner, but the ending wasn't satisfactory. However, I loved the story! Lucy and Gabe meet their senior year at Columbia and fall in love, but differing dreams tear them apart and their life takes different paths. However, fate continues to entertain their stories and the book follows each and every turn. This is a story in which I truly didn't see the end coming- and never would have predicted it! Like I said, I loved it and it left me in tears, but if you like stories that end with a bow on top you may not love the ending!
It Ends With Us || 5 out of 5
This is 100% the BEST book I have read this year!!! Seriously, stop whatever you are doing and read it :) It's so hard to explain without spoiling any of the intricate details, so I'm going to keep it really brief. Lily is from a small town in Maine and moves to Boston to start the life she's always dreamed of. There, she fall hard for Ryle- a gorgeous doctor- and everything seems perfect. Then out of the blue her first love, Atlas, reappears and she questions everything she's built. This book brought every single emotion out in me, and days later I'm still thinking about, pondering it, and both heartbroken and so happy with how it wrapped up. Y'all have to read it!
Southern Solstice || 3 out of 5
I wanted to love this book, I really did, but unfortunately it was just "meh" for me. It's got all the right ingredients: it's set in Charleston and focuses on the twenty-something daughter of an old-money southern family and her life and love tribulations. It's an easy read and an overall lighthearted story, but wasn't gripping or a page-turner. It would be a good beach read if you're looking for something that's a no-brainer.
The Pie Life || 3 out of 5
Samantha actually came and spoke at my work which is how I learned about her book. This is a bit of a "self-help" book in that Sam tosses out the notion of a woman's life being about "balance" and rather breaks it down into our lives being like pies with different slices. Although I really liked the idea of the book (and tend to agree with her logic) she's pretty abrasive in her advice-giving and I didn't always agree. It was also really geared towards working moms, which made it hard for me to relate to many parts of the book. However, I think it is interesting and definitely a good read if your wondering why you can't achieve that perfect balance in your life.
Alright y'all, hopefully this gives you something new to add to your Kindle! There's no better way to spend a day off of work than curling up in the morning with a great read and a cup of coffee :) Enjoy your Labor day!
